History

James Hunt Racing Centre

Daytona Milton Keynes began construction in August 1989 and opened in March 1990 at a cost of more than £1.2 million. The track was operated by Concession Car Racing Centres and started out life as the short-lived James Hunt Racing Centre.

Not originally designed as a go-kart circuit, the James Hunt Racing Centre used Sunset Formula Cars and gave members of the public the opportunity to drive single-seater racing cars capable of 60mph in 10 lap sessions.

The track soon began to host go-kart races, with a number of owner-driver prokart races taking place at the circuit in 1990. By the end of 1990 however, the track and the business had been put up for sale, with no forthcoming buyers, hence causing the circuit to be abandoned and fall into disrepair. The clubhouse meanwhile was turned in to a posh Indian restaurant

1976 Formula One World Champion James Hunt sat behind the wheel of one of the cars in front of the now iconic Clubhouse.

Daytona Motorsport

Daytona Motorsport was founded in 1990 and quickly became an established indoor-karting company who operated the Daytona Raceway circuit opposite the BBC Television Studios in London. The circuit became London’s premier karting venue and was regularly visited by celebrities who were working at the nearby BBC Television Studios.

Daytona Motorsport made the decision to expand out into outdoor karting in 1996 by purchasing the derelict circuit. The circuit was reopened and rebranded as Daytona International, with the track quickly growing in popularity. The North Circuit was then added in the early 2000s adjacent to the car park, catering for Bambino and Junior karting.

The now legendary Daytona MK 24 Hour was first held in 2008, with the event growing into one of the biggest events in UK hire-karting. The 2023 event sold out in 4 days with 49 teams and over 200 people taking part.
