Classes

The EKS consists of two classes: the Junior class and the Senior class. The Senior class also contains its own sub-class called the Senior Heavyweight class.

The Junior class has a minimum racing weight of 70kg and is for drivers aged 14 to 19 years old. Once drivers turn 20 they will not be able to race in the class. Each Junior drivers best 5 round scores will count towards their championship points total. Please note that drivers who are aged 14-15 years old must first receive permission from luke@elitekartingseries.co.uk to enter the series before booking in due to circuit-specific age restrictions.

The Senior class has a minimum racing weight of 80kg and is aimed at drivers aged 20 and over. 14-19 year old drivers who weigh more than 70kg can also race in the class if they first receive explicit permission from luke@elitekartingseries.co.uk. Each Senior drivers best 7 round scores will count towards their championship points total.

The Senior Heavyweight sub-class is for drivers who weigh significantly more than the Senior class minimum weight of 80kg. The sub-class has a minimum weight of 95kg and drivers are allowed to use ballast to achieve this weight.

Please see our graphics on this page which recommend which class you should race in and what form of ballast we recommend using at different events to achieve the minimum weight of each class. Below are also explanations of what forms of ballast are available and allowed at each circuit.

Types of Ballast

On-kart Ballast

The Daytona Milton Keynes and Daytona Sandown Park Birel DMAX karts have weight posts next to the drivers seat, as pictured, where up to 16kg of Daytona-provided ballast can be fitted for free.

The Daytona Tamworth DMAX-GT karts have weight boxes built into their left sidepod, where up to 22.5kg of free Daytona ballast can be inserted. Adding this much ballast however is ill-advised as it will make for very uneven weight distribution and an unbalanced kart.

Ballast cannot be fitted directly to or inserted into the Buckmore Park or PF International karts. Weighted seat inserts and body-worn ballast are allowed at Buckmore Park and PF International however.

Weighted Seat Inserts

Weighted seat inserts are permitted at all circuits - if you would like to create your own weighted seat insert, please be aware that all of the Daytona DMAX karts and the PF International karts have Tillett XL seats fitted, whilst the Buckmore Park karts have Tillett XXL seats fitted.

We are also currently in the process of creating of own weighted seat inserts which we will be able to provide for free in the future.

Body-Worn Ballast

All forms of body-worn ballast, such as weight vests, ankle weights and wrist weights, are allowed at Buckmore Park and PF International, however weight vests and wrist weights are not advised due to the discomfort and bruising which they can cause whilst driving.

All forms of body-worn ballast are prohibited at Daytona circuits for safety reasons.
